We are an NGO, that has been created with the aim of organising and propagating the activity ABILYMPICS, that is our principal activity. Slovak Abilympica Association is organized in the free time volunteers working at IMA (www.ima.sk) and ZTPM (www.ztpm.sk) youth organisations. These people came to the conclusion that Abilympics needs independent Status and it is not sufficient, if it remains as any of the numerous other activities of these two organisations. Abilympics itself is a competition of working abilities of disabled people and at the Slovak level is organized usually once a year, so far there has been 10 years of Abilympics, where we had all together about 1 200 competitors, in 28 competition disciplines, where we have had the help of 650 volunteers, judges and specialists. In 2010 we organized the 10th year of Abilympics. In 2011 we will go as a Slovak Delegation to South Korea for the international Abilympics. So far, the Slovak delegation has participated very successfully on 4 international abilympics in Czech Republic, India, Japan and Australia.

To prepare such an event as abilympics – it is necessary to present this activity, make publicity, financially provide, and communicate with partners, prepare propagation materials and other work. This concerns external activities of Slovak Abilympic Association, that are orientated mainly towards public. Their common aim is to inform the wide public, breaking prejudges, increasing awareness about disabled and their special needs. We mainly try to assert healthy, open attitudes without discrimination and negative preconceptions.

To provide our team with the capacity to organise Abilympics, it is necessary for us to have knowledge and information about the life conditions of the disabled, and often we deal with combined and very heavy disabilities. Apart from Abilympics itself throughout the whole year we provide activities for support and encourage a life full of value for people with disabilities...
